Huaraz

Huaraz is the capital of the Ancash Region and the seat of government of the Huaraz Province. Located at 3,080 MASL in the North of Peru, the city of Huaraz is perfectly located at the heart of the Callejon Huaylas Valley and possesses breathtaking landscapes like the snow-capped mountains of the Cordillera Blanca. Many tourists begin their trek in Huaraz because it is very close to the Cordillera Blanca (White Range) and the Cordillera Negra. One of the best attractions of the region is the Huascaran snow peak at 6,768 MASL , which is the highest moutain of the country. Huaraz was rebuilt after the 1970 earthquake that destroyed the city, affected the whole Valley, and during which around 70,000 people died. The architecture of the city is of little importance, however, it is a dynamic and lively city where we can find a rather cosmopolitan population.
